Michael Sam, an All-American defensive end for the University of Missouri’s football team, recently announced that he is gay—just weeks ahead of the all important NFL draft. Sam is the first open-gay football player ever for a college or University ever to come out gay that I know of.
As we all know, athlete’s are now coming out and announcing their sexuality. There has never been a case that I can remember that is an University student announcing their sexuality. In most states today, same-sex marriage is now legal. And many more states to follow this same lead according to the New York Times. The following is a chart of states in green who have legallized same sex marriage. The one in reddish brown color have banned same sex marriage. (`http://gaymarriage.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=004857)
There’s a lot of things coming towards us. Sports are big around the world and many are coming out. Some athletes started coming out saying they were gay in the 1980’s.
My question is, who’s next and what’s going to happen?
